How Big to Think in 2010

The above photo was printed in a 1954 Popular Mechanics article predicting and illustrating a home computer 50 years in the future. A leading-edge expert at that time predicated, “By the end of the century, computers may weigh as little as 1.5 tons.”

I am writing this message to you on a laptop computer weighing about 5 pounds, using battery power during a vacation on a remote polynesian island; posting it to you via satellite and Internet; transmitting to your home computer with the touch of one button. We’ve come a long way, baby.      The computer expert’s size and weight prediction was off by a factor of 600; if you want to consider our common Palm Pilots, he was off by a factor of 5000. So even the biggest thinker of that time was thinking in a tiny, tiny way compared to what eventually came to pass.

As you envision your year to come, and all of your life, understand that the good that comes to pass may be 600 or 5000 times bigger and better than what you can imagine. You are used to seeing your life through the lens of history, which is always far smaller than your destiny.

As you think about your new year’s committments, I would like to suggest a radical approach: Instead of noting all the stuff you want to create and achieve in the outer world, focus on who you want to be and how you want to feel within you. While your “to do” list is important, your “to be” list is even more important. As you move through your doingness, who do you want to be and how do you want to feel?  You can get everything done on your task list, but if you end up frazzled, tired, and depleted, you have not accomplished much. And even if you do not cross off every item on your task list, but you have kept your soul alive and brought a whole heart to your personal and business relationships, you have succeeded gloriously.

I wish you the most spiritually successful year of your life. The material good will follow naturally. Think in harmony with joy, and your head will stay on straight and you will have everything your heart desires.  ~By Alan CohenMany blessings to you,JafreeHave you received your FREE quart of Body Balance yet?http://www.Free-Liquid-Vitamins.net
