How to Step Out of the Movie and Be Free!
Written by Jafree Ozwald and Margot Zaher
There is this incredible film called The Life of YOU and guess what? You are the main star of it! Yes, you’ve single handedly produced this movie, directed the entire show, set the stage, hired the entire cast, all the while playing the lead part. Wow, you must be amazingly talented! There may have been only one tiny issue. When you have been acting out the scenes on stage and feeling all the intense drama from scene 2010, you might have contracted a bit of amnesia and have forgotten that you are playing a role in an illusionary motion picture. Sometimes when we have been playing a role for sooooo long we forget that its just a small role in the bigger play. Remember, you always have the option to step off the stage, let go of any dramatic hype, and begin watching from the theatre seats.
“Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside. ” ~ Ramana Maharshi
Whenever you think that your life is this movie, and that all of the drama experienced by the lead character is for real, you get trapped in the pain of things not turning out the way your ego mind wants them to go. Any over-identification with your role in the movie is causing all sorts of suffering. Many of us have tried to escape this suffering by spending many years and dollars changing the internal movie script. We have written in many new characters, changed jobs, relationships, and created a more enlightened screen presence. After all of this work, somehow there is still the quest to find those deep feelings of being loved, at peace, abundant, free and happy. There must be another way….
“Awakening to the truth is a deep realization of what you are as an experience. >What is it that is listening? What is it that is feeling? Feel it. Sense it. Welcome it.” ~ Adyashanti
It’s time to wake up from the movie in your mind. The only way for you to experience unending bliss is to completely step OFF of the movie stage. Go sit down in the audience, sit back in your seat and enjoy the show! As a VIP member of this audience, you’ll appreciate all of the “ups” and “downs” of each scene because you’ll know that all of this is not happening to you. When you stop taking life sooo personally you can find a healthily detached perspective and start to realize the divine truth of your being. You are this amazing boundless presence that makes up everything and everybody. When you understand and live this truth everyday, you can simply laugh at what happens on the Golden Screen. Nothing can stick to you when you’re realizing your true Infinite Nature.
“The choiceless truth of who you are is revealed to be permanently here permeating everything. Not a thing and not separate from anything.” ~ Gangaji
One great secret on how to wake up to the truth of who you are is to be aware of any “identity” that you create. The mind is always creating new ideas of who it thinks it is, and the act of believing and clinging to these thoughts is what creates your so called “identity”. You are not who you think you are. The easiest way to break free of this identity spell is to keep focusing on the truth of who you are. So ask yourself the deepest question of, “What is this I?” Who is this “I” that you keep referring to as “me” or “yourself” and what happens when you drop it completely? Most people have never taken the time to investigate how real this ‘me’ actually is. Whenever you stop to ask this question, and look closely, and very deeply. you will always find a vast spaciousness. This is the infinite presence of who you are. Once you experience the vastness of your being, the movie on the screen will begin to lose its allure and you won’t be so easily tempted to jump back into the drama role. You can start to sense a new freedom in your life when you experience this deep bliss inside, which is your true nature.
“The thought ‘who am I?’ will destroy all other thoughts, and like the stick used for stirring the burning pyre, it will itself in the end get destroyed. Then, there will arise Self-realization.” ~ Ramana Maharshi
