The Benefits of Self Love versus Co-Dependent Love

The Benefits of Self Love versus Co-Dependent LoveBy Jafree Ozwald
www.EnlightenedBeings.com "Have a love affair with yourself.  Until you have a love affair with yourself, you can’t begin to have as much fun with somebody else."  ~Viki King  If you turn on your radio you will most likely hear a song that speaks of a co-dependent kind of love.  Whether you are listening to Celine Dion sing, "I’m everything I am because you loved me" or Michael Bolton croon "Tell me how am I supposed to live without you", your subconscious mind at some level is being programmed to believe that the feeling of being loved only comes from someone outside of yourself.  Love that is dependent on someone in the outer world is like a pseudo love.  It is not the real thing because it will come and go like the wind.  Have you ever noticed how one moment your partner adores you, and the next moment you feel rejected?  The good news is that at the core of your being is an infinite wellspring of pure unconditional love that is never comes or goes.

"Love yourself and be awake -today, tomorrow, always." ~Buddha Your true nature is literally love itself.  The only kind of love that is real and everlasting is that which cannot be damaged, altered or changed in anyway.  It is that love which pours consistently from your innermost being.  It’s that natural love you have for a beautiful sunset, a new rosebud, a soft cuddly puppy, or a sleeping baby.  This love that naturally occurs inside you is what self-love consists of.  When you turn towards the source of this love, you start to love yourself.  You experience a love that does not die, change with the seasons, or whither with time.  The true source of Self-love will always be as bright as the sun and will reside inside of you no matter what is happening in your outer world or how difficult your life has become.  No matter what “they” say (or don’t say) to you in the morning, or who comes and goes in your outer world, this divine love will always be there for you.

"There are basically two movements of consciousness: Love and Fear.  Love is allowing what is and fear is resisting it." ~Nirmala Loving yourself is empowering!  It gives you a true sense of freedom because you are no longer dependent on others for feelings of love and worthiness.  Depending on love from outside yourself is like trying to depend solely on the sun for heat and warmth.  Some days, it may be super sunny and you may feel lots of love from others, while other days it may be raining and snowing because your intimate partner or friends are not giving you love and affection.  This leaves you feeling devoid of love, and creates strong feels of neediness and unworthiness.  On the other hand, nurturing deep feelings of love and affection for your self is like having an internal sun burning at your core that continues to shed light and warmth on you no matter what is happening in your external world.   When you have your internal self-loving sun shining brightly inside, you naturally pour your love onto others without needing anything back in return.  This self-love enables you to effortlessly live a life of genuine joy and become an unconditionally loving being for everyone.

"He that falls in love with himself will have no rivals."  ~Benjamin Franklin  If you are challenged by intimate relationships, this is the one sweet secret to inundate yourself with that will change your life forever.  Large frequent doses of Self love!  It truly is the main ingredient for manifesting divine experiences 24 hours a day.  When you spend your time loving yourself, you stop being soooo hard on yourself.  You switch to being gentle with you and also release your hunger for someone to love you and make you feel loved.  When your inner sense of being loved is fulfilled, any intimate relationship is destined for success!  It is extremely disempowering for making anybody else than you 100% responsible for you feeling loved, and it is nearly impossible for any one person to be unconditionally loving with you 100% of the time.  We are human after all and have lessons to learn here, the main one is love.   If you feel bound to a certain person, you are going to feel unloved at some point or another.  The more needy and dependant you are, the more you tend to reach outside yourself for more love, creating even more stress for your partner. On the other hand, when you bathe in deep self love, you become independent of your partners love and stop relying on them for feelings of worthiness.  While you still cherish loving moments with your partner, you are happy and fulfilled whether or not love is given to you on a specific day by someone in your outer world.  This enables both you and your partner to thoroughly and completely relax into the true joy of being together.  When both partners experience immense self-loving feelings for themselves, then the partnership can blossom and grow into a relationship where both parties feel whole, complete, and loved no matter what occurs.  Self-love is literally the gateway to experiencing the kind of deeply loving relationship you have always craved. "Love is nourishment for the soul.  Just as food is to the body, so love is to the soul.  Without food the body is weak.  Without love the soul is weak."  ~Osho
